Who really said it
Everything in the world is about sex, except sex. Sex is about power
There is no Wilde source for this. It appears in none of his plays, essays, letters or recorded conversation, and it is absent from Ralph Keyes’s compendium of the genuine Wilde epigrams. The earliest instance anyone has located is from July 1995 — the novelist Michael Cunningham, writing in Provincetown Arts, who used it and then said it was not his. The psychiatrist Robert Michels is often named as the author, but the citation for that is 2002, seven years later.
