Who really said it
I do not know with what weapons World War III will be fought, but World War IV will be fought with sticks and stones
Genuine, and better documented than most Einstein lines. It comes from an interview with Alfred Werner published in Liberal Judaism 16 in April–May 1949, catalogued as Einstein Archives 30-1104 and printed with that citation in Alice Calaprice’s The New Quotable Einstein (2005), p. 173. Two honest caveats, though. The sourced wording begins ‘I know not,’ not ‘I do not know.’ And Einstein was not the first to make the joke: an unnamed US Army lieutenant at Bikini Atoll got there in 1946.
