If I Could Just Make Them Up On the Spot, I'd Be Famous
Berra told this one on himself. In his 2001 book When You Come to a Fork in the Road, Take It! he describes a couple visiting his museum who asked him to produce a Yogi-ism on demand, and writes that he told them he doesn’t make them up on the spot — that if he could, he’d be famous. Quote Investigator ↗ finds good evidence he coined it; the crisp quoted wording everyone shares is how Sports Illustrated printed the same exchange in 2011.
