Jobs said it, and immediately disclaimed it. His exact words at the Stanford commencement on 12 June 2005 were: ‘When I was 17, I read a quote that went something like, “If you live each day as if it was your last, someday you’ll most certainly be right.”’ Note ‘I read,’ ‘something like,’ and ‘was’ rather than ‘were.’ He was reciting from memory something he had read 33 years earlier, and nobody has yet identified what.
