There is no evidence Gandhi ever said or wrote this. Quote Investigator traced the earliest strong match to a 1908 short story, “An Inside Tip” by George Hyde Preston in Cosmopolitan, where a stock-market “bear” declares “If you are going to be a bear, be a grizzly!” — and even that may only be recording a pre-existing anonymous adage. The Gandhi tag first surfaced online around 2008.
