Context
Why it spread
A modest, high-minded sentence is easy to believe of a famous builder, and an image with a name on it travels faster than any check. The account that posted this one looked official: it had a blue checkmark and Musk’s name. That is enough for most readers to assume a quote is real.
Musk’s real words are unusually easy to check, because so many of them are his own public posts. Lead Stories searched his own X account for this wording and found nothing. A real Musk quote usually turns up in a post, interview or talk you can link to.
A blue checkmark is not a source.

Elon Musk is the businessman behind Tesla and SpaceX, and one of the names fake quotes get pinned on most often online. His real quotations are well documented in interviews and in his own posts on X, so a line that appears nowhere in either deserves suspicion. This line’s real author is unknown. It is listed under Musk only because that is who the viral image named.
