Keller may genuinely have written these exact words — but in someone else’s autograph album, not in any book or speech of her own. Quote Investigator ↗ dates the Keller credit to a November 1927 newspaper item, finds the underlying adage circulating in American newspapers before she was born, and concludes flatly that she “did not craft it.” The Library of Congress’s Respectfully Quoted (1989) likewise recorded that Keller experts had never been able to find the sentence in her work.
