Who really said it
Life is either a daring adventure or nothing at all
Keller wrote the sentence — but she stopped at “nothing.” It is the next-to-last sentence of a paragraph in Let Us Have Faith (Doubleday, Doran & Co., New York, 1940), in the chapter “Faith Fears Not,” on pages 50–51: “Faith alone defends. Life is either a daring adventure or nothing.” You can read it in the scanned first edition ↗. Quote Investigator traces the appended “at all” ↗ to a 1980 printing in Business Quarterly that carried no attribution; by 1984 a Dallas newspaper was pinning the longer form on Keller, and that is the version the internet kept.
