Tesla wrote it himself, in “The Problem of Increasing Human Energy,” his long essay for The Century Illustrated Monthly Magazine of June 1900 — the sentence sits on page 188 of the scanned issue, in the passage on his remote-controlled “telautomata.” Quote Investigator ↗ traces the line to the same article and concludes Tesla should receive the credit. One catch: the popular version stops at “loss of life,” and Tesla’s sentence does not.
