Credited to Edison across the internet — and even on the Edison Innovation Foundation’s own quote page ↗ — and it squares neatly with his documented gospel of persistence. But no contemporary source records Edison saying or writing it: the earliest citation is a 2007 children’s book that assigns it to 1877 with no supporting evidence, and Wikiquote editors removed it ↗ as unverifiable. Widely credited, but not pinned to any primary source.
