Confirmed word for word in Keller’s own journal: the entry headed “The Manse, December 10th” — written at the manse in Bothwell, Scotland — on page 57 of Helen Keller’s Journal, 1936–1937 (Doubleday, Doran & Company, 1938). She set it down on the day Edward VIII signed the Instrument of Abdication, as her reason for doubting he would find the happiness he expected.
