Who really said it
Not all those who wander are lost
This is the second line of Tolkien’s poem “The Riddle of Strider” — known by its first line, “All that is gold does not glitter” — in The Fellowship of the Ring (1954). It appears in Gandalf’s letter to Frodo, read in the chapter “Strider,” and describes the wandering ranger Aragorn as the hidden heir of kings. The exact wording is confirmed verbatim in the text.
