Who really said it
Tell me, what is it you plan to do with your one wild and precious life?
These are the closing two lines of ‘The Summer Day,’ first collected in House of Light (Beacon Press, 1990). The attribution is almost never the problem with this one — the wording is. As published it reads “Tell me, what is it you plan to do / with your one wild and precious life?”, with the ‘Tell me,’ intact and a line break after ‘plan to do.’
