Who really said it
When the rich rob the poor it’s called business. When the poor fight back it’s called violence
This is not a Gilded Age epigram. It is a protest slogan from 2011, assembled in public on Twitter in the weeks before Occupy Wall Street began on 17 September 2011, then chanted and carried on placards. Versions appear from June 2011; the wording people now quote is on Twitter by 9 September 2011. Before Twain, it was credited to Priyanka Gandhi and to Drake. The first Twain attribution the Center for Mark Twain Studies could find is October 2015 — 105 years after his death.
