A. A. Milne

Alan Alexander Milne (18 January 1882 – 31 January 1956) joined the staff of Punch in 1906 and became an assistant editor, writing humorous verse and whimsical essays; he served as a signals officer on the Somme in 1916 and later wrote for military intelligence. He was an established playwright and novelist — Mr. Pim Passes By, The Dover Road, the detective novel The Red House Mystery — before the four children’s books he wrote around his son Christopher Robin eclipsed all of it. Winnie-the-Pooh arrived in 1926 and The House at Pooh Corner in 1928; this sentence belongs to the second.
