Charlie Chaplin

1889–1977 · English actor, filmmaker & composer

Sir Charles Spencer Chaplin (1889–1977) was an English comic actor and filmmaker whose Tramp became the defining image of the silent era — and, less famously, a composer. Wikipedia lists him as an actor, comedian, director, composer, screenwriter, producer and editor, and he wrote the scores to his own pictures, beginning with City Lights. Long after the silent era ended he kept going back to his old films to write music for them, which is exactly how a line from a 1928 comedy came to be written four decades later.
