Margaret Irwin

1889–1967 · English historical novelist

Margaret Emma Faith Irwin was a London-born novelist best known for historical fiction such as Young Bess. Her fourth novel, Fire Down Below (1928), is a satire with a passing dig at “Gloomsbury,” and that dig is the earliest known form of the squares-and-triangles joke.
