The Knife

Swedish electronic duo, formed Gothenburg 1999, disbanded 2014

Siblings Karin Dreijer (born 7 April 1975) and Olof Dreijer (born 27 November 1981) formed The Knife in Gothenburg in 1999 and ran their own label, Rabid Records, largely so that nobody else would tell them what to do. They wrote “Heartbeats”, produced it, and released it themselves in December 2002. Their public stance was pointedly anti-commercial, which made Sony’s cheque awkward — they explained that they needed the money to establish a record company. The duo stopped working together in November 2014.
