A little knowledge is a dangerous thing
The thought is genuinely Pope’s, but he wrote “A little learning is a dang’rous thing” in An Essay on Criticism (1711) — not “knowledge.” The “knowledge” wording is a later paraphrase that hardened into a catchphrase; it appears nowhere in Pope’s poem.
