There is no evidence Einstein ever said or wrote this. Quote Investigator traces the “eighth wonder of the world” & compound-interest pairing to an April 1925 bank advertisement in the Cleveland Plain Dealer, printed with no attribution; the Einstein credit does not appear until 1988. The extra clause — “He who understands it, earns it; he who doesn’t, pays it” — is a still-later embellishment with no documented source.
