The trouble is that plausibility is not provenance. When the institution that guards Ford’s legacy — The Henry Ford — publishes a curated quotations list and notes that anything not on it simply couldn’t be traced to a reliable source, a quote’s absence there is a meaningful signal, not a shrug.

It reads like Ford. That is the whole reason to be careful.
