Malcolm X said it at an Organization of Afro-American Unity rally in the Audubon Ballroom, Harlem, on 13 December 1964, while setting up a passage about how the American press covered the Congo. The sentence was printed the following year in Malcolm X Speaks, the collection George Breitman assembled after the assassination, and the circulating wording matches the published transcript almost exactly.
