Malcolm X

1925–1965 · Black liberation leader, minister & human-rights organiser

Malcolm X (born Malcolm Little, later el-Hajj Malik el-Shabazz) was a minister and organiser who reframed the American Black freedom struggle as a human-rights question belonging before the United Nations rather than a domestic civil-rights question. After leaving the Nation of Islam he travelled widely in Africa and the Middle East, and in September 1964 he crossed from Egypt into Gaza, visiting the Khan Younis refugee camp and a local hospital. Days later he published “Zionist Logic” in The Egyptian Gazette, arguing that Zionism amounted to a new form of colonialism — a real, citable text that the viral paragraph has effectively crowded out.
