Genuine, and pinnable to the page. The sentence appears in Chapter I of Nature, the essay Emerson sent anonymously to James Munroe and Company in Boston and which was published on 9 September 1836 ↗. It sits two sentences before the famous “transparent eye-ball” passage, and survives unchanged into the 1849 revised edition.
