The line is not Burke’s. It is the opening sentence of Chapter VI of The Autocrat of the Breakfast-Table by the American physician and essayist Oliver Wendell Holmes Sr., first printed in The Atlantic Monthly for April 1858 and collected in book form the same year. Burke died in 1797, and the sentence appears nowhere on Wikiquote’s Burke page — not in its sourced list, and not in its attributed, disputed or misattributed lists either.
