Who really said it
The truly creative mind in any field is no more than this: a human creature born abnormally, inhumanly sensitive
This is genuinely Buck’s, from her lecture “The Creative Mind at Work,” delivered as the William Vaughn Moody Foundation Lecture at the University of Chicago on 17 January 1935. Her original sentence opens “For the truly creative mind in any field is no more than this — a human creature born abnormally, inhumanly sensitive”; the popular version simply drops the leading “For” and swaps the dash for a colon.
