Casandra Brené Brown is an American social-work researcher and writer who holds the Huffington Foundation’s Brené Brown Endowed Chair at the University of Houston’s Graduate College of Social Work. Her studies of shame, vulnerability and courage reached a mass audience through a 2010 TEDx talk and a run of number-one bestsellers including The Gifts of Imperfection (2010), Daring Greatly (2012), Rising Strong (2015) and Atlas of the Heart (2021). The vulnerability-is-not-weakness argument is the through-line of that whole body of work, which is why the sentence reads as authentically hers even to people who have never opened the book.
